I started training as a profession in 2009, part time, while completing grade 12. Once graduated, I dedicated myself to developing my business further by taking in outside horses for training full time, attending clinics, seminars, and courses. I am continuously gaining more knowledge, taking new opportunities, expanding the facilities and setting new goals to develop the JSH program and ranch for the future. I am a Ken Mcnabb certified Master horse trainer.
In Aug. 2013, I won the Rocking Heart Ranch trainers challenge, and am honored to have been invited as a judge for the 2014 challenge. The Horse Expo & Country Christmas Trade Show invited me to participate in a colt starting demo Nov.28/29 2015 in Medicine Hat. This led to an invitation to compete in the H3 colt starting competition in Manitoba April 15-17 2016, where I was honored to have the opportunity to compete against some amazing horseman; Dale Clearwater and Steve Rother. In June of 2017 I took on a 30 challenge and competed in the Chautauqua Colt Starting competition. I am also very excited to announce that I have been invited to compete in the Mane Event Trainers Challenge in Chilliwack, B.C Oct.25-27 2019!
Horses have always been a passion of mine and a part of my life. I have been around horses for 15+ years and will always have something to learn from them. As well, I have collected and studied numerous books and dvd’s on horses and training. My first horse was a shetland pony, who taught me a lot of important lessons on handling and caring for a horse. From there, I have had horses come and go, growing and downsizing my herd to include a variety of breeds.
Family is important to me and I appreciate having both a close relationship with them as well as living close to them. My family has been there for me and supported me through the highs and lows of developing this business. They have helped pick me up and dust me off, driven me to the hospital, listened when I needed to talk and cheered me on when I reached my goals. Without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I have worked with numerous horses of different ages and breeds that range from small Welsh ponies to great Belgians and Shires, including: Quarter horses, Arabians, Foxtrotters, Appaloosas, Friesiens, Morgans, Andalusians, Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, Percherons and more. I adapt my training program to suit the needs of the individual, whether the horse needs to be completely started, finished, worked through certain problems or simply needs miles.
I have built a respectable clientelle and I am very grateful for all the help and support that the community has given me. I am dedicated to helping the horse and handler, and encourage anyone that is experiencing problems, needs advice or has any questions to contact me and I will do my best to help.
“It’s not enough to take steps which may someday lead you to your goal; each step must be itself a goal, and a step likewise.”
~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Happy trails!
